Curatorial Project
Sarah Kipp has created her own identity in a series of self portraits that follow her family lineage to create a portrait of herself that is connected to this lineage. She has photographed herself with projections of family members projected on to her. The result is an image that neither resembles the artist or her family member but rather somewhere in between the two. In her own words, “I am conjuring those that live within me…the child, adolescent, father, mother, and grandparent within, as I contemplate human existence through birth, life, and mortality”. The many small photographs are displayed parlour style as one would hang family photographs in their home hence pushes the notion that the artists identity is connected to her family’s identity.
