This paper cut depicts the hand of Fatima. The hand is popular throughout the Middle East and commonly used in jewelry and wall hangings. Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection, the hand is believed by middle easterners, to provide defense against the evil eye.
Muslims Call the it the hand of Fatima after the daughter of Muhammed. Christians in theMiddle East call it the Hand of Mary and Jews call it the Hamsa.
