I Stand on Guard
2008

8 feet H X 10 feet W X 4 feet D

Photo collage on paper with acrylic paint and chalk on the floor are handmade bricks and sand from India.

The work consists of a pattern that mimics architecture commonly seen in South Asia the photograph was taken in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the 1980s. One questions where the photo was taken as some of the members in the image are wearing garments that are traditional to South Asia. There are hand made bricks with sand from India thrown on top of the bricks to symbolize an incomplete home. The tile of the piece is taken from a line from the Canadian national anthem to question if Canadian society sees immigrants as Canadians.
